Teamsters Hold Rally to Protest Dangerous
Cross-Border Trucking Plan
Trucks from Mexico Are Unsafe, Uninspected
(Washington, D.C.) – The Teamsters Union will hold a rally in San
Francisco on February 12 outside the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco to protest the Bush
administration’s illegal cross-border trucking pilot program. The court will be hearing
arguments from the Teamsters and other allies about stopping the illegal program.

After raising numerous safety concerns about unsafe trucks from
Mexico traveling freely throughout the United States, the U.S. Senate voted 75 to 23 and
the U.S. House voted 411 to 3 to keep the border closed until standards are met. The
legislation became law on December 26, 2007 as part of the omnibus budget bill. The Department of
Transportation has refused to comply with the law.
